At first, it seems like a normal shadow shot of a man caught in front of direct light. However, after doing a double-take, it is clear that there is no man within the frame to create the projected silhouette. Only the guy’s shoes remain behind for the shadow of a full figure to emerge from. This mind-boggling series entitled I’m Not There is the creative work of photographer Pol Úbeda Hervàs. The Barcelona-based mastermind has embarked on this new photographic journey, giving us only a taste of where the mysterious invisible man has popped up. We’re eager to see where else this translucent figure in worn sneakers will surface. In the meantime, we’ll have to mull over these three photos, trying to figure out the photo manipulation techniques used to produce them.

Edith Piaf – La Foule

Edith Piaf - “La Foule

La Foule has got to be one of my top three favorite songs of all time. The beautiful but frenzied Peruvian waltz coupled with Piaf’s impassioned singing is just perfect. Meaning “The Crowd” in French, La Foule tells the story of two lovers that lock eyes in the midst of a bustling street and instantly fall in love. Sadly, the push and pull of the crowd separates the pair, and they never find each other again. Uplifting, right? But even though the lyrics tell a heartbreaking story, the music will make you want to jump up and dance with next person you see. Definitely one of Edith Piaf’s greatest songs of all time.

See you next Wednesday!

Washed Out – Feel It All Around

Washed Out - Feel It All Around

You may know this one as the theme song for Portlandia. If not, you may just know it as a track off of Washed Out’s 2009 EP, “Life of Leisure”. If you’re still not familiar with it, let’s get you educated; hit play and have yourself a listen. It was another one of those weeks where I didn’t know what to post until the last minute. I ended up picking a Washed Out track because tonight I’ll be buying a ticket to see him on April 20th (:D) in Boston, and I just can’t wait.

Now, this track, along with what I posted last week, reminds me of warmer weather, most likely because of the heavy rotation that my friends and I gave Washed Out last summer. I feel like I’m already gearing up for the warmest months, but it’s only the beginning of March. Soon enough, though, and this song will surely be on repeat.

Enjoy!
